Today we continue our season preview content which will run for three weeks leading up to the start of the 2016 high school season. We will take a look at all four regions and each classification in those regions separately. Today we turn our focus to Class AA teams that compete in Region III. 

PRESEASON Forecast

The loss of 1B/LHP Austin Cordell (Potomac State) and his 39 RBI may affect the PikeView offense, but the Panthers are our pick to repeat in Region III. The Panthers return every position starter from the 2015 Class AA state semifinals with the exception of Cordell and one of the top 1-2 pitching combinations in the state in senior Levi Nash (10-1, 1.02 ERA) and junior Jacob Harmon (8-3, 2.16 ERA). Nash, a University of Charleston recruit, was the starter in last year's state semifinal. In order to repeat in Region III PikeView will once again have to get by Independence a perennial contender in the region.

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-hander had one of the better seasons in the state in 2015 posting a 10-1 record with a 1.02 ERA. The University of Charleston recruit tossed eight complete games and allowed just 64 hits in 75.1 innings of work. Nash showed excellent command walking just 26 batters while punching out 96. Opposing batters hit a paltry .210 against him.
