As we prepare for the upcoming 2015 high school season, we will be taking a preseason glimpse at programs from around the state.
Team: Weiton Madonna
Nickname: Blue Dons
Class: 1A
League: OVAC
Head Coach: Tim Provenzano
2014 Overall Record: 22-5 (Lost in section finals)
TOP PLAYERS:
Nick Mazur, RHP, Class of 2015 (2-0 in 2014 / likely staff ace)
Domenic Silvestri, C/RHP, Class of 2015 (hit .344 as a junior)
Vincent Merico, SS/2B, Class of 2015 (athletic MIF hit .298 in 2014)
Key losses:
Luca Fuscardo, OF/LHP, 1st Team All-State 2014 (Kent State University)
Will Bowser, OF/RHP, Special Honorable Mention All-State 2014
Ross Comis, OF, (UMASS - football)
SEASON OUTLOOK:
The Blue Dons graduated a significant portion of their starting lineup, including two Division one athletes in Fuscardo and Comis. Competitive every year, look for Madonna to reload and make a run at another OVAC title and post season run in 2015.
According to the Coach:
"This year's team will be returning two pitchers with significant varsity experience. While the total number of seniors will be six, only three have previous varsity experience. Last year's team was loaded with talent and pitching. We expect to win another OVAC Championship and make a run at a state playoff bid."
