2014 Team Preview: John Marshall HS

As we prepare for the upcoming 2014 high school season, we will be taking a preseason glimpse at programs from around the state.

Team: John Marshall
Nickname: Monarchs
Class: 3A
League: OVAC
Head Coach: Robert Montgomery
2013 Overall Record: 14-18 (Lost in Section Finals)
Returning seniors: 6

TOP PLAYERS:

Tanner Filben, RHP/IF, Class of 2014

SEASON OUTLOOK:  

The Monarchs battled Morgantown HS for the sectional title a year ago coming up short in the best-of-three series, two games to one. John Marshall will look to replace the loss of nine seniors. The good news is that there appears to be reinforcements in masses. The Monarchs return six seniors and 13 juniors in 2014.

Head Coach Bob Montgomery has over 800 career wins and always finds a way to get the Monarchs ready. With a senior laden squad in 2013 there were not many opportunities for underclassmen to see the field. Tanner Filben was the exception, hitting .442 as a role player in 2013.
