2014 Team Preview: Hampshire HS

As we prepare for the upcoming 2014 high school season, we will be taking a preseason glimpse at programs from around the state.

Team: Hampshire
Nickname: Trojans
Class: 3A
League: Independent
Head Coach: Chad VanMeter
2013 Overall Record: 25-4 (Lost in region finals)
Returning starters: 5

TOP PLAYERS:

Shane Ennis, RHP/OF, Class of 2014 (WVU commit)
David Delawder, 3B/SS, Special Honorable Mention All-State 2013
Brandon "Bucky" Timbrook, SS, Honorable Mention All-State 2013
Ethan Turner, 2B/3B,Honorable Mention All-Conference 2013
Dane Heavener, OF, Honorable Mention All-Conference 2013

SEASON OUTLOOK:  

The Trojans were on the doorstep of heading to Charleston for the Class 3A Final Four last season, but lost a heartbreaker to eventual state champion Hedgesville 4-3 in the regional final. RHP Matt Maiers (8-1) & LHP Josh Crawford (7-0) have graduated and moved on to Potomac State College. With them gone the Trojans will be looking to replace 15 wins from last year's pitching staff. Ennis, ranked No. 1 in the WV Class of 2014, will assume the No. 1 starter role. Delawder and Timbrook will also be expected to pick up an additional workload on the mound.
