Wisconsin 2018 Rankings: Risers

By Steve Nielsen

As the 2018 rankings were expanded to 80 and several newcomers joining the list, it's become tougher and tougher to make a significant jump in the class. But some recent standouts this summer managed to do just that.

The biggest jump in the 2018 ranks came from Tanner Kohlhepp (Eau Claire Memorial), we touched on his rise yesterday in our rankings update story. Worth mentioning again, Kohlhepp rose almost 30 spots and into the top ten as he proved himself as a legitimate two-way threat at the next level.

His Old Abe teammate, RHP Jack Brown (Eau Claire Memorial) also caught some helium in teh ranks. Brown went from the mid 30’s last November to a top 20 prospect in the state. He put up the two best pitching lines at the Future Games, not allowing a run and reaching 89 mph with his fastball.

SS Evan Albrecht (West Bend West) made a top 20 splash as well. Albrecht is a hard nosed grinder type on the diamond who plays the game with pace and seems to have a knack for the baseball. He projects as a top of the lineup on-base producer who can defend the middle of the field.

RHP Bryce Konitzer (Mukwonago) also makes a top 20 appearance for the first time. Konitzer has been showing a mid 80’s fastball all summer and pounds the zone effectively, producing weak contact.
