Today’s unsigned senior spotlight feature Union Grove two-way player Ben Miller. Miller is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound right handed pitcher and shortstop for the Broncos.
Last season Miller was one of the top performers for the Broncos, contributing big innings on the mound. He went 7-0 on the mound with a 1.45 ERA. He racked up 84 strikeouts to 29 walks in 57.2 innings pitched. His impressive stat line led to a first team All-Conference selection, as well as a first team All-County.
According to Coach Mike Arendt, head baseball coach at Union Grove, Miller features a mid-80’s fastball on the mound complimented with a change-up, curveball and slider. He has the ability to locate all of his pitches for strikes and mixes them very well giving him the ability to keep hitters off balance.
Coach Arendt said, “Ben is one of the smartest players I have ever coached. He truly understands the game from all angles. When he was on the mound for us our team had a completely different attitude about it and that comes from his demeanor on the mound.”
Miller also has a great work ethic on and off the field, Coach Arendt explained.
“He is always working to improve himself, going to camps, working out after practice. He puts endless hours in and it shows on the field. His teammates respect him and he is a leader by example both on and off the field.”
