Unsigned Senior Spotlight: RHP Jake Lenz

Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois
Jake Lenz is an athletic right-handed pitcher from West Bend West who popped onto our radar after the Southern Wisconsin Open on October 25. Lenz rated as one of the top three pitchers at the event and top ten overall prospects in attendance.
Lenz is easily a top 50 prospect in the state but had yet to be seen when the 2015 Wisconsin rankings were updated after the Unsigned Senior Showcase.
Lenz is an athletically built right-handed pitcher standing 6-foot, 185-pounds and shows good projectability. His tall and fall delivery shows little effort while using mostly his upper half and landing closed with an athletic finish. Lenz’s arm action is loose and quick working from a ¾ slot which makes him attractive to recruiters. His fastball has run and showed the ability to command it at 84-86 mph. His curveball has sweeping action with 10/4 shape at 73-75 mph. With Lenz’s ¾ slot his breaking ball naturally take on the more of a slider shape. His arsenal is rounded out by a sinking changeup thrown with arm speed at 72-74 mph.
Lenz showed the ability to pound the zone with all three pitches and possess an aggressive up tempo presence on the mound. Lenz is still looking for options and should be a strong follow in the 2015 class. He could be a hard find in the spring as his high school (West Bend West) plays a summer high school schedule; but if still uncommitted, will be well worth the work to track down the right-hander this spring.
