Damian Guenther highlights today’s unsigned senior spotlight. Guenther is a 2013 graduate of Oshkosh West HS. Guenther has a tall ceiling showing us a workable arm action from a 6-foot-4 frame that touches 89 mph. Guenther should make a high impact for the Wildcats in 2013 as the hard throwing righty heads into his senior season.
Guenther has an athletic build, a prototypical pitchers body standing 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. The right handers delivery has a drop and drive style that shows regular effort and some rhythm. His arm works long with loose actions showing a quick arm speed that has some projection while operating from a high ¾ arm slot.
His fastball features slight sink while showing the ability to control the baseball. He consistently worked down in the zone even when missing the strike zone. At 86-88 mph and touching 89 mph, Guenther showed plenty of life to get hitters out at the next level. His curveball has 11/5 shape flashing sharp bite with some depth. His velocity varied from 69-73 mph but when thrown harder at 73 mph his breaking ball took on much more life.
Guenther should be one of the more highly sought after pitchers still available in Wisconsin. His projectable frame and lively arm should give him plenty of opportunity for success at the next level.
