Today’s Unsigned Senior Spotlight features Ty Grunenwald from Merrill HS. Grunenwald has a lean, athletic frame, 6-foot-1, 170-pound switch hitting shortstop. Defensively shows quick feet and is a 6.96 runner. His arm action is long and over the top at 78 mph across the diamond. Offensively he hits from both sides of the plate out of a slightly open stance with a short stride. He is a line drive type hitter who is currently more advanced from the right side.
Grunenwald said he has seen interest from Lipscomb, Minnesota, Penn State, Western Illinois, Georgia State and Minnesota Duluth.
He also said, “I have spoken with many schools like, Aurora University, Hamline University, Dominican University and Wartburg College.”
Grunenwald has yet to make any visits during his high school football season but is constantly on the search for the right fit.
“Education is very important to me. I do not care about location of the school at all. I would like to go into Physical Therapy, so majoring in Kinesiology or related Health Science programs.”
According to Grunenwald he has a 20 on the ACT and carries a 3.63 GPA while taking all Honors AP classes. He is also ranked in the top 20% of his class.
Grunenwald is coming off of a solid junior year racking up first team All-Conference and second team All-District honors which he hopes to repeat in 2014.
