Mihlbauer stood out at a preseason event in Wisconsin, but was on the shelf for most of the summer and returned to the hill in the fall. He has a solid frame at 6-foot-1, 182 pounds and throws slightly across his body, coming through a 3/4 slot. His fastball ranged from 84-88 mph in the fall, but has been up to 90 in the past. He gets occasional arm-side life to the pitch and throws strikes for the most part, but more control than command. He mixes in a curveball at 70-71 with 3/4 break. He shows excellent feel for his changeup, which has sinking action at 82-84.
