Scouting Director – Wisconsin/Illinois
Chris Bernatz is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound right handed pitcher from Arrowhead HS. Bernatz has a highly projectable frame and athletic build. His clean repeatable delivery shows athleticism and works on line to his target. Bernatz shows little effort and his arm action is long and loose out of a ¾ arm slot. His fastball featured arm side run while showing control of the zone at 80-81 mph, topping out at 83 mph. Bernatz slider showed advanced action and feel at 69-71 mph, it features sweeping action with bite; swing and miss capabilities. His curveball has a steeper plane at 11/5 and throws it a tick slower at 68-70 mph. He also shows feel for a changeup with sinking action at 70-73 mph. Bernatz also features a cut fastball which shows true cutter action, impressive feel and short lateral movement at 76-79 mph.
First and foremost Bernatz said he is looking for education first at the next level. He carries a perfect 4.0 GPA and will be soon be taking the ACT.
Bernatz said,
“Academics are part of, what I think, separates me from some of the other players trying to be recruited to the next level. I have a 4.0 cumulative GPA and I currently have all A's. I take pride in my grades and being a student first, and an athlete second.”
He is taking that same approach when looking for schools as well.
“I am looking for a college program that meets my criteria for where I would want to go to college even if I didn't play sports. I will enjoy the baseball part of it no matter what, so the college itself is most important to me.”
