Head Coach Steven Bochat and the Big Foot HS Chiefs are looking to improve on last season’s .500 year. Finishing at 14-14, 8-8 in the Rock Valley South, Coach Bochat has a good nucleus of young players returning for 2013. The Chiefs are returning seven starters and five pitchers from the 2012 campaign.
Of the returning players, the most exciting are the trio of sophomores who all contributed heavily to the varsity as freshman in 2012. Brett Morris, Alex Landers, and Brandon Hausner all played significant roles in 2012. All three should contribute in some aspect on the mound; both Morris and Hausner saw significant innings last year as freshman and should again this year. Landers started all season for the Chiefs in 2012 and will look to do so again in 2013, both behind the plate and in the infield.
The top returning senior for the Chiefs will be second baseman Carter Hehr. Hehr is the Chiefs leadoff hitter and is poised to set the tone for the lineup all season.
Coach Bochat knows his team will have to rely on small ball this season, as they lack the power hitting they have had in years past. However, with his young retuning nucleus and pitching depth he looks to take the Chiefs past the Regional Finals in 2013.
