CHILTON, WI – Mosinee and Notre Dame got things started in the Division 2 Chilton Sectional on Tuesday. The Indians came out firing in the first as pitcher Bryce Graveen hit a single to right field. Chris Tomski followed up by delivering a one-out, full count double down the left field line.
After the first inning runs proved hard to come by and Notre Dame resorted to the suicide squeeze in the sixth to tie things up, 1-1. Mosinee threatened in the top of the seventh with two men on and one out but the Notre Dame defense executed a nifty pick play to retire the trailing runner. Triton pitcher Davis Elm then struck out the final batter of the inning.
Notre Dame outfielder Joe Curtin led off the bottom of the seventh with a laser to third base for a single. Shortstop Ty Yewman then layed down a bunt but Graveen’s throwing error resulted in the Tritons having runners on second and third. After Alex Wendricks came up to pinch-hit and was intentionally walked to load the bases. It set the stage for Sean Green. Green stepped in to the box looking to provide the walk off hit but when the count went to 1-2 Graveen uncorked a wild one allowing the winning run to score as Notre Dame defeated Mosinee 2-1.
