APPLETON, WI – The No. 4 Wilmot Panthers kept their season alive in the third quarter-final match up, squeaking by No. 16 Middleton 2-1.
Both clubs sent their aces to the hill in Middleton’s Kasey Miller (9-0, 2.76 ERA) and Wilmot’s LHP Alec Haluzak (7-1, 0.32 ERA) and runs were tough to come by.
Wilmot third baseman Dustin McFarlane gave the Panthers an early lead launching a towering solo home run to left in the second, putting the Panthers in front 1-0.
Wilmot catcher Garret Bogucki extended the lead in the third with a much needed RBI single making it 2-0 Wilmot.
Middleton couldn’t string together a big inning off of the left handed Haluzak, who finished the day scattering seven hits and striking out three. Middleton’s lone run came in the fifth with an RBI single from senior catcher Jackson Keeler.
Haluzak retired the Cardinals in order in the seventh giving Wilmot the 2-1 victory and advancing to the semi-finals later tonight. Wilmot will take on the winner of Kimberly vs. Hartford in the nightcap.
