No. 17 Indian Trail upsets No. 4 Jefferson

KENOSHA, WI – In a non-conference battle on Saturday, No. 17 Kenosha Indian Trail upset No. 4 Jefferson 4-3.

In only their second year of existence, Coach Schmidt and the Indian Trail Hawks (16-2, 8-0) have quickly proved themselves to be considered as one of the top programs in the state. Last year as a Division 2 program, Indian Trail upset Jefferson (17-2) in the playoffs knocking them out without one senior on their team. Now with their entire team back, a lineup full of seniors and the top sophomore prospect in the state, the Hawks should be primed and ready to do the same in the Division 1 playoffs in couple weeks.

The talented Jefferson Eagles struck first in what, on paper, looked to be a one sided victory. Senior Roby Schlesner got the Eagles on the board in the first with an RBI single. The Hawks countered in the second with two runs of their own, the big hit coming off the bat of sophomore standout Gavin Lux who ripped an RBI single down the right field line.

Indian Trail would score two more in the fourth to make it a 4-1 ballgame, which proved to be enough for sophomore starting pitcher Jeremy Stouffer. Stouffer went six strong innings holding the Eagles at bay. Jefferson had their chances leaving runners in scoring position both in the fourth and fifth frames but Stouffer wiggled his way out of it each time.

Jefferson got a big two out hit from Jared Nelson in the sixth to claw to within one making it 4-3 but Indian Trail closer JJ Booth would close things out in the seventh nailing down his eighth save of the year. Stouffer picked up the win improving to 3-1.
