No. 6 St. Laurence (IL) 4, Neenah 0

There’s not much high school baseball being played in Wisconsin, but one team made the trip south to Burbank, IL as the Neenah Rockets opened their season against No. 6 ranked St. Laurence (IL) on Tuesday.

Neenah lost 4-0 in seven innings at St. Laurence, despite outhitting the Vikings six to four.

The Rockets definitely had their work cut out for them as the St. Laurence Vikings are the No. 6 ranked team in Illinois. The Vikings feature a potent lineup that consists of two Division 1 commits in Mike Kornacker and TJ Marik both of whom are juniors.

The Rockets sent the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2015 to the mound in Connor Wollersheim. The lefty lived up to his ranking in his early season stint pitching his two innings of scoreless baseball without allowing a hit. Wollersheim made easy work of the Vikings allowing only one base runner on a hit by pitch. Retiring six of the seven batters faced he showed solid control of the zone while striking out two Vikings.

The Rocket offense outhit the Vikings (6-4) but was unable to push across a run as St. Laurence walked away with a 4-0 victory.

Matt Gruse, Spencer Miller, Jake Formella, Nate Penn, Connor Wollersheim, and Steve Law each recorded a hit for the Rockets.
