Racine Case 5, Racine Horlick 0
RACINE – In a first round matchup of Southeast Conference foes, No.7 seed Racine Case took care of business Tuesday beating No. 10 seed Racine Horlick 5-0.
Both teams sent underclassmen to the mound for their first round match up. Freshman Aaron Steinhoff would go for the Rebels and sophomore left-hander Julian Alverio for the Eagles.
Case struck first against the freshman Steinhoff, who was touching 83 mph early in the game, and scored a run in the first after a leadoff double by junior second baseman Jeremy Williams.
The Eagles would threaten again in the third and again thanks to Williams for getting things started. After a one out walk by the junior, Wisconsin Milwaukee commit Zach Brenner doubled, scoring Williams. Brenner would later score on a groundout by Alverio.
With the 3-0 cushion Eagle sophomore Julian Alverio continued to hold the Rebels at bay. Alverio would finish with five plus innings pitched, six strikeouts and allowed four hits without allowing a run.
Case would tack on two more insurance runs in their half of the sixth with a leadoff walk and a misplayed sacrifice bunt doing the damage.
Eagle senior Dylan Thillemann would come on to record the final six outs and earn the save, striking out three Rebels in the process.
Case will now face No. 2 seed Kenosha Tremper on Thursday May 30 in the next round of the regionals.
