Scouting report on Mahoney from the summer:

Mahoney is a 6-foot-8, 227-pound, RHP who has an athletic frame. He throws straight over the top and has a short stride that is in line with a square landing. Mahoney sat 79-83 and generates good downward plan on his fastball. He threw an 11/5 curveball that ran 66-68 with good arm speed and command. Mahoney’s change-up was 73-74 with some late sinking action to it and he also commanded the pitch well.

Analysis:

Mahoney is an imposing figure, towering over hitters while standing on the mound. He may lack elite velocity right now, but as he lengthens his stride and hits the weight room this offseason his velocity should increase. In spite of his velocity, Mahoney is incredibly tough on hitters because of the extreme downward angle on his pitches from his release point as well as the extension that his height and long limbs help him generate. He has feel for two offspeed pitches that will continue to improve over time and he projects as a quality starter at the college level.
