On Tuesday, June 23, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted the Top Prospect Showcase-North at Patriot HS in Nokesville, VA.  Uncommitted 2016 graduates showcased their skills for various colleges and the PBR staff. Kyle Anstice, Catcher/1B, Stonewall Jackson, 2016
Hits from a balanced/athletic stance that is slightly crouched with bent knees. Has a smooth load back. Short stride to the ball with outstanding balance. Good approach during the round with a simple swing and sprays the ball around the field. Bat path is level and had extension. Line drive type swing with a fluid rhythm. Showed good bad speed with an exit velocity of 84 mph. At first base, threw from a high ¾ arm slot with short loose arm action. Showed soft hands with fluid foot work that could improve with more work at the position. Exchanges were clean. At times fields of the ball his heels. Behind the plate, threw from a high 3/4 arm slot with short arm action. Throws were accurate and had average carry. Was a solid receiver. Footwork was fluid and exchanges were quick and clean. Was athletic behind the plate. Was raw behind the plate but has a chance to be in very good catcher with athleticism. Pop times were 2.09 - 2.19.

Patrick Beck, Catcher, Thomas Jefferson, 2016
Hit from a tall stance that was slightly hunched over. Had a very small load back. Took a short stride and have a good balance throughout the swing. Took a good approach throughout the round with a fluid rhythm. Showed strong and fast hands with an exit velocity of 84 mph. Bat path was short and level with a line drive stroke. Stayed behind the ball very well throughout the round. At times would come up out of his stance. Behind the plate, threw from a short arm action that was over-the-top. Throws were accurate and online. Had average arm strength. Showed above average hands. Footwork was quick. Exchanges were clean and quick.  Pop times were 2.04 - 2.10.

Michael Cheripka, Catcher, C.D. Hylton, 2016
Hit from a balanced/athletic stance that was tall. High Hands.  Had a slight load back. Small leg kick with a short stride. Had average balance throughout the swing. Showed good bat speed and had an exit velocity of 82 mph. Had good approach during the round. Bat path was level and long at times. Had a line drive stroke with a somewhat stiff rhythm. Starts with the bat laid down that leads to a cast.  Behind the plate, threw from a high 3/4 to over-the-top arm slot with a short somewhat stiff arm action. Showed average arm strength. Had soft hands and showed the ability receive. Footwork was methodical and exchanges were clean. Had a good set up and is a big target.   Pop times were 2.28 - 2.31.

Mason Farman, Catcher, Annandale, 2016
Hit from a balanced stance that was slightly crouched with bent knees. Had a small load that went back and dropped the hands at times. During the round took a long stride and would dive at times.  Took a good approach during the round with a level bat path that had extension. Line Drive stroke. Rhythm was stiff at times. Behind the plate, threw from a high 3/4 arm slot with short and somewhat stiff arm action. Throws were accurate and had average carry. Showed soft hands and the ability to be a good receiver. Footwork was fluid and exchanges were clean. Has the ability to block, moves well behind the plate. At times was caught on his heels. Pop time for 2.00– 2.19.

Teddy Herbert, 1B/RHP, Washington-Lee, 2016
Hit from a tall and narrow stance.  Slight load back.  Took a long stride and  utilized a leg kick. Had a very good lower half. Stance was wide at times. Exit velocity is not indicative of power potential. Lofts the ball very well. Gap-to-gap stroke with extension. In the field, he threw from a loose high ¾ arm slot. Had good accuracy and a Positional Velocity of 77 mph.  Throws were crisp.  Hands were above average with clean exchanges.  Footwork was clean, but lacked fluidity.

Adam Keiser, Catcher, Brentsville, 2016
Hits from a slightly crouched stance. Loads back and slots his hands with an arm bar. Short stride and utilizes a leg kick. Had good balance throughout the swing. Took a good approach during the round. Bat path was level, but long at times with extension. Showed average bat speed with an exit velocity of 78 mph. Line Drive stroke. Rhythm was stiff at times. Behind the plate, through from a high 3/4 arm slot with a long arm action. Throws are accurate and had average carry. Had average hands with average footwork. Was raw at the position but showed athleticism. With work, has the ability to be a good catcher. Showed arm strength with a positional velocity of 74 mph. Pop times work 2.15 – 2.29.

Vincent Steenburgh, 3B, Douglas S. Freeman, 2016
Hit from a balanced/athletic stance with a slight bend in the knees. Had a smooth load back. Stride was short and online. Had excellent balance throughout the swing. Had an advanced approach during the round.  Bat path was short, level, and hat extension. Showed strong hands that were fast. Had an exit velocity of 84 mph. Line drive/gap-to-gap stroke. Had fluid rhythm. Used a slight turn of the need to create bat speed and torque. Really got through the baseball with a Buggywhip effect. In the field, threw from a 3/4 arm slot with the long arm action that was somewhat stiff. Throws were accurate with average arm strength. Showed average hands and fluid footwork that was slow at times. His exchanges were clean a methodical. Played through the ball but was stiff at times.

Andrew Webb, Catcher, Forest Park, 2016
Hit from a balanced stance that was tall. Had a slight load back. Short stride with good balance throughout the swing. Took a good approach during the round. Had a short level bat path with outstanding bat speed. Had an exit velocity of 87 mph. Showed a line drive stroke. At times cut off the extension and lost his front side. Rhythm was stiff at times. Behind the plate, threw from an over-the-top arm slot with a short arm action. Throws were accurate and had carry. Had soft hands and showed the ability to receive. Footwork was fluid and slow at times. Exchanges work clean and quick went footwork was sped up. Stiff behind the plate at times. Showed arm strength with a positional velocity of 75 mph. Pop times were 1.97 – 2.06.
