Get to know prospect John Callahan...

PBR:  What schools have expressed interest in you?

Callahan:  George Mason, High Point, ECU, Campbell, VCU, William & Mary, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Liberty.   I received my first offer over the holidays.

PBR:
Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Callahan:  I have visited William & Mary, High Point, ECU, and George Mason.

PBR:
Are you looking for anything in particular in a school?

Callahan:  I am looking for a school that has strong academic programs and also has a great baseball program.  I am open to all schools location is not as important.

PBR:
We know you’re a very talented player. Tell us all about you.  What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Callahan:  My strengths are hitting, fielding, and overall baseball knowledge.   I am focusing on building strength so I can improve my speed.

PBR:  You’re ranked in Virginia and Nationally by Prep Baseball Report VA/DC (PBR). How does that feel considering the size and talent in the state?

Callahan:  Virginia produces a lot of great baseball players and to be ranked in the Top 15 in the states shows me all my hard work is paying off.   I feel very lucky to be nationally ranked with some of the best players in the nation.

PBR:  What's your training look like this winter? Goals for the spring?

Callahan:  This winter my focus in on power, strength and agility.  I work a strength coach at least three days a week and I lift with my high school team twice a week.   I also have team workouts that focus on hitting and fielding.   My personal goal for the Spring is to be my best and help my high school team win states.

PBR:  How was your high school season last year? Team record? Post season awards? Stats?

Callahan:  My high school season last spring was great; our team finished the year 23-2 (which was the best record in school history).  We won the Conference Championship and the Regional Championship, but we lost in the State Semifinal.  I received 1st team All-Conference and 2nd team All-Region honors.   I started every game and finished the year with a .380 batting average and .505 on base percentage.

PBR:
Preview your high school season? How will your team be this year? Expectations?

Callahan:  My team last spring had 5 sophomores, four of us made all-conference.   We will all be back this spring and are bigger, faster, and stronger than last year.  We have a strong potential to return to the state tournament and hopefully to the championship.  We all know we will have to work harder than we did last year to achieve this goal.

PBR:  How are your academics? GPA? ACT? SAT? Any academic awards?

Callahan:  I have an overall GPA of 3.25.  I will sit for my first SAT in March.

PBR:  Who is the best player you will see this spring? Best team?

Callahan:  The best player will probably be Drew Daczkowski from Potomac Falls High School. Drew is a 6-5 RHP/OF (2016) who touches 90 mph on the mound.  The best team we will face is our longtime rival James Madison high school.

PBR:  What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Callahan:  My most memorable moment was the first home game last year against our rival Madison. I lead off the game with a single on the first pitch of the game and scored the first run. It is memorable because it was my first varsity start.
