Just Released: Virginia Class of 2016 Rankings

Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC is proud to release its first rankings for the Class of 2016. We have taken the time to carefully evaluate the outstanding talent throughout the Commonwealth in making these rankings. We have considered many factors, including each player’s current talent level and their projected ceiling. Over the next year and a half, these rankings will change and expand as players continue to develop and demonstrate higher levels of skill.
The current Top 10 is very representative of the Commonwealth’s Class of 2016, which is loaded with pitching talent has some high ceiling position players.

Top 10 Rankings
1. Bobby Nicholson, RHP, St. Anne’s-Belfield
Nicholson is a Virginia commit who stands 6-foot-3 and has a drop and drive delivery with a relatively short arm path and a three-quarters arm slot. His fastball already sits in the upper 80s, touching 91 with arm side run. He also has shown advanced feel for his offspeed pitches which include a tight slider, running change-up, and a curveball.
2. Noah Murdock, RHP, Colonial Heights
Murdock stands a lanky 6-foot-7, 170-pound and will play at Virginia in 2017. He has a long, fast arm action and his fastball currently sits in the mid-80s, reaching as high as 89 with some late arm side bore to it. Murdock throws a plus true slider and a sinking change-up. He has the potential to add significant velocity as he fills out.
3. Jalen Harrison, OF, St. Anne’s-Belfield
The Virginia commit is a premium athlete with outstanding tools. Harrison is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound, OF that has an above average arm with good instincts in the field. Offensively, Harrison is an explosive athlete with bat speed and power. As he develops, Harrison could morph into a true 5-tool player.
4. Garrett Stallings, RHP, Grassfield
Stallings is a Tennessee commit who has an athletic 6-foot-2 frame. He works with his fastball in the upper 80s and has touched 90. Stallings complements his power fastball with a slider and a curveball that both work in the upper 70s.
5. Joe Rizzo, 3B, Oakton
Rizzo is a South Carolina commit that is 5-foot-11, 195-pounds. He is an athletic defender that has good feet and soft hands. Rizzo has ability to move well laterally and has above average arm strength. His best tool is his bat. Rizzo hits from a athletic/wide stance with good rhythm and balance. He has a gap-to-gap approach with a smooth left handed swing.
6. Robert Riddick, RHP, Paul VI
Riddick is a Virginia Tech commit who has an imposing 6-foot-4 frame on the mound. He throws from a high three-quarters slot and sits in the mid to upper 80s. He commands his fastball well and can also cut it when he wants to. Riddick also throws an outstanding hard biting slider as his best offspeed weapon.
7. Michael Bienlien, RHP, Great Bridge
Bienlien will be headed to South Carolina after high school and has an athletic 6-foot-3 frame. He throws from a three-quarters slot and he works with his fastball in the mid-80s, touching 87. He has a full offspeed arsenal, throwing a curveball and a change-up.
8. Cayman Richardson, SS, Hanover
Richardson is a Virginia commit that is an outstanding athlete. In the field, Richardson has soft hands, quick feet, and an above average arm. At the plate, he has outstanding bat speed and a gap-to-gap approach with power potential.
9. Keagan McGinnis, RHP, Battlefield
McGinnis is a Virginia Tech commit who has a lanky 6-foot-5 frame. He throws from a high three-quarters slot and has a quick, loose arm action. McGinnis’ fastball works in the mid-80s and has reached as high as 87 with some late arm side run to it. He also throws a hard overhand curveball and a fading change-up.
10. Alex Amos, RHP/SS, Millbrook
Amos is a Pittsburgh commit who has a chance to play both ways at the next level. On the mound, Amos works in the mid-80s and has touched 87 and has an outstanding curveball and a good change-up. As an infielder, he has good actions and soft hands. He has quick hands and a short stroke that help generate gap or better power.
