Jared DiCesare commits to George Mason
December 12, 2014
2014 Top Prospect Games participant and Chantilly High School third basemen Jared DiCesare has verbally committed to attend George Mason University in the fall of 2016. DiCesare is the first current Charger to commit to a Division I school, but senior outfielder Andrew Kim is slated to play for top Division III program Christopher Newport next fall. DiCesare was also accompanied to the 2014 Top Prospect Games by teammate Matthew Padeway (2016, C). DiCesare’s development at the plate was a key to Chantilly’s 2014 team, which won the Northern Region and was the 6a State Runner-up. The Chargers look to build on last season’s success and will have a very competitive team in the deep Concord Conference.
DiCesare is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound third baseman that hits from an athletic stance. He has good vertical stacking, high hands, and a smooth load back with a slight arm bar. He has a short stride and gets full extension through the ball. DiCesare has a line drive approach, sticking to the middle of the field. With more strength he has the ability to develop into a run producer. He had an exit velocity of 82 mph. In the field, DiCesare has outstanding actions, soft hands, and a good feel for the position. He moves well laterally and has good first step quickness. He takes good angles to the ball and has the ability to be a plus defender.
When he arrives at George Mason, DiCesare figures to immediately be able to help the Patriots as a strong infield defender who could can play multiple positions and put the ball in play. As his bat develops, DiCesare has the potential to become a middle of the lineup hitter who has doubles power to all fields and the ability to pop a few home runs while providing outstanding defense at third base.
Congratulations to Jared!
