PLAYERS TO WATCH
Noah Lerman (OF, 2017) Lerman is a transfer from Paul VI and is a strong top of the order presence with good speed and gap or better power potential. He is a good defender in centerfield and covers a lot of ground. Lerman is currently ranked 47th in the Class of 2017 Rankings.
Josh Pittman (RHP/2B, 2017) Pittman is a transfer from Eastern View and is a very talented two player. He has a good mix on the mound with a swing-and-miss breaking ball. He is also a good hitter with a line drive approach and gap power. Pittman is currently ranked 61st in the Class of 2017 Rankings.
Danny Singleton (3B/RHP, 2017) Singleton is another transfer, coming from Paul VI. He has a smooth lefthanded swing and a solid glove at third as well as the potential to contribute a lot on the mound.
Timmy Stephan (3B/RHP, 2017) Stephan is a talented two-way player who has potential on the mound with a three-pitch mix and good bat with a line drive approach and gap to gap power. He led the Hawks in batting average, runs scored, and extra base hits in 2015.
Mark Terrell (1B, 2016) Terrell has been named VISAA All-State twice in his career and has hit eight home runs with nearly fifty RBIs over those two seasons. Senior 6'7 275 R/R. 2 Time All VISAA State. Mark has compiled 8 HR's and 48 RBI over the last 2 seasons. Terrell his big power to all fields.
Jacob Zoller (C/RHP, 2017) Zoller is athletic and a defensive leader behind the plate as well as a very good situational hitter.
SEASON OUTLOOK
Highland is coming off of a solid 2015 season that saw the Hawks make a deep push in the Delaney Athletic Conference tournament before losing in the semifinals. The Hawks have not lost much from the 2015 squad and will add five transfers and Shane Buss (RHP, 2016) back to the rotation after he was not able to pitch in 2015. Highland will be solid defensively up the middle with Zoller behind the plate and Lerman in center and fundamentally sound infield. The lineup should be deep with Terrell’s power to anchor the middle of it and drive in runs. The rotation will also be very deep and talented. Look for Highland to be one of the most improved teams in 2016 as the Hawks will be threat to win the DAC and advance to the VISAA Division II State Tournament this spring.
