Texas Scouting Director

Our staff is working to become the #1 news source for Prep Baseball across the state of Texas. Remember to follow us on twitter (@PBR_Texas) and reach out to us with any news, commitments, or your upcoming workout and game schedule. We are hosting four EVENTS this winter to allow players the opportunity to be evaluated by our staff with video, scouting reports and verified statistics.

Since the launch of Prep Baseball Report Texas, our staff has been all over the state covering games and evaluating players. We recently released our first ranking with the 2018 class. This past weekend our staff was in Tomball to cover the College Prospects Showcase Tournament. Here are the senior infielders that stood out this past weekend.

Nathan Collins, SS, Alvin Reach HS, 2017 (Banditos)
Alvin commit. 6-foot-1, 185-pound, solid frame. The right-handed hitter has good leverage, a flat and good power. Took good swings on the weekend showing the ability to barrel balls up consistently, including a home run to left field on day one.

Julio and David Marcano are twin brother that had a solid weekend in Tomball. This was our first chance to see the twins play. Both are right-handed hitters that play middle infield for Hunter Pence and Tompkins HS. But these two brothers are both committed to the same college, New Jersey Tech. From the looks of it, New Jersey Tech got two very solid players. The Marcano's have solid actions on the infield, both showing good footwork and arm strength with quick, clean exchanges. Julio and David each have rhythm and bat speed at the plate with leg kicks and leverage. Julio highlighted the weekend with a home run on sunday in championship play, while David had a triple to right-center field.

Andrew Talley, SS, Clements HS, 2017 (Fort Bend Texans Red)
5-foot-10, 140-pound, wiry, fast twitch frame. Good footwork and range from shortstop. Longer arm action with good arm strength. Possesses the tools to stay on the infield at the next level. The right-handed hitter starts from a balanced, neutral stance.

Garrett Veit, SS/RHP, Cuero HS, 2017 (Hunter Pence - Crew)
5-foot-9, 170-pound frame. Lean-muscular frame with developing body. Shows good footwork on the infield with solid arm action. Works from neutral stance with good rhythm and solid hand path. With added strength he could turn out to be a really nice sign.

Victor Cruz, IF, Cypress Fair HS, 2017 (Hunter Pence - Crew)
Texas Southern recruit. 5-foot-9, 175-pound frame. From the looks of it, Texas Southern got a solid infielder for next year. Cruz shows the ability to handle the ball in the middle of the field with good all around defensive tools. He had a double in one of the game we watched and was an average runner.
