It’s not often you find a player that has the ability to be dominant both on the mound and at the plate. McCallie sophomore RHP/OF Corbin Brooksbank showed that kind of potential at the Preseason All-State Showcase on February 7 at Showtime Sports Academy.

At 5-foot-11 , 170-pounds, Brooksbank has a strong and athletic frame, and he impressed in all aspects of the game at the event.

Brooksbank began his day by running a 6.78 60-yard dash, but that was just the start of his impressive performance.

During defensive drills, Brooksbank showed good arm strength from the outfield at 86 mph. Offensively, he showed good bat speed with an aggressive approach at the plate. He is a line drive type hitter with gap to gap type power potential, and he showed his ability to generate bat speed with a 91 mph exit velocity off the tee. With three years of high school baseball left, I expect Brooksbank to develop into a dangerous hitter before his high school career comes to an end.

On the mound, Brooksbank put on an impressive performance. His fastball sat 88-90 mph, touching 91 on one occasion with occasional arm-side run. His curveball had very fast, exploding break to it sitting at 77-78 mph while also showing a sharp slider at 78-80 mph. In addition, he showed some feel for his 80-82 mph changeup that showed late sinking action. Brooksbank’s status as one of the top few arms in Tennessee’s 2017 class is unquestioned.

Look for Brooksbank to be a major contributor in leading McCallie to a successful season this spring.
