The Hotlist: Other 2017 Prospects To Keep An Eye On

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

With the publishing of the first 2017 Overall Rankings, last week’s Hotlist introduced the top player from each state in the rankings. As the 2017 class continues to reveal itself, the list will get deeper. It currently shows the top 25, but below you will find the top players that didn’t make the initial cut. These prospects may not be in the top 25, but they’re still worth keeping an eye on.

One exception to this week’s topic is the inclusion of Ontario players. The 2017 rankings were posted before we launched PBR Ontario. The two players—Cooper Davis and Adam Hall—are among the top prospects in Ontario’s 2017 class, but weren’t ranked simply because of timing.

Chas Adams, LHP, Floyd Central HS, IN
Adams is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound southpaw that was up to 86 mph this spring, sitting 83-85, with an easy arm action. He also showed good command of a 12-to-6 curveball with good depth.

Glenn Albanese, RHP, Batavia HS, IL
Physically advanced at 6-foot-4, 206 pounds, Albanese looks to be of Illinois’ premier 2017 prospects. He had the best fastball velocity at the Top Prospect Games touching 86 multiple times in his second outing. On the first day, he sat 82-84, touching 85 before a brief, but stronger, outing on the second day. He gets good arm-side life down in the zone. He should see a jump in velocity down the road if he incorporates his lower half more. Working from a three-quarter slot, Albanese stays tall and works downhill well. His high-70s changeup shows good potential with arm-side action. He also showed feel for a curveball at 69-71. It had gradual break and he was able to throw it for strikes.
