The past two weeks have filled to the brim with baseball for me. The 2014 Prep Baseball Report Future Games had a host of talented underclassmen and the Area Code Games in Long Beach, CA, were a treat to watch as always. You don’t even have to look on the field to know talent is present. Just look in the stands to see the dozens of Division I colleges and amateur scouts crowded behind the plate to evaluate the players.
At the Future Games, LHP Andrew Saalfrank (Heritage HS, IN) was my favorite player thanks to his swing-and-miss breaking ball. He also topped the list of rising prospects, which Sean Duncan highlighted last week. At the Area Code Games, OF Demi Orimoloye (St. Matthews Catholic HS, ON) and LHP Kolby Allard (San Clemente HS, CA) were the two biggest standouts for me. Orimoloye is a physical outfield with loud tools and he made hard contact all week. Allard showed that he is one of the top southpaws in the class with a good fastball-curveball combination. I’ll have more on the top players from Long Beach soon.
