It’s a big week for high school baseball with the USA Baseball National High School Invitational starting on Wednesday. The event is in its third year and brings in 16 of the country’s top teams. While teams come in with the focus of winning a championship to bolster their resume for national rankings, the NHSI also attracts dozens of scouts to see some of the top draft talent. A couple pitchers—RHP Dylan Cease (Milton HS, GA) and LHP David Peterson (Regis Jesuit HS, CO)—will not play because of injuries, but nine other players from November’s National Top 50 will be there, plus several others that could boost their stock with a strong week. I will have more on the event in a preview on Tuesday.
In case you missed it over the weekend, I drove to Asheville, NC, to see the state’s top hitter and pitcher face off. The match-up didn’t live up to the hype as LHP Alex Destino (North Buncombe HS, NC) struggled with his command and 1B Braxton Davidson (Roberson HS, NC) went 1-for-3 with a single, walk and hit by pitch.
Without further ado, let’s get to a couple questions…
