By Mike Maerz
Director of Florida Operations/Area Scout

This past weekend the Orlando Scorpions held their 2016 Fall Tryouts which showcased over 300 players either previously with the Orlando Scorpions or some looking to make a team in the fall.

On Friday, pitchers threw bullpen sessions in front of college coaches and scouts, while on Saturday position players went through a pro-style workout which included batting practice and I/O. Below are some of the standouts/pitchers seen during bullpens from the 2018/2019 classes from Friday and Saturday which includes reports on several players and notes on others.

Jud Fabian, OF/LHP, Trinity Catholic, FL (2019)
-Athletic, lean build with room to grow as he strengthens and he matures. Natural instincts and understands the game well. Displayed a quick first step to the ball, takes good routes, and positions himself well on fly balls to use his momentum on his throws in. Throws were accurate with carry to third base from right field. At the plate, he has a confident approach and uses all of the field. Also displayed some juice in his bat as he put one over the left field wall. Homered several times over the summer season. Florida recruit.

Bryce Boone, C/OF, Trinity Catholic, FL (2019)
-Strong, athletic, loose, projectable body. Comfortable and balanced in the box with a quick bat. Showed some loft in his swing and the ability to drive the ball deep into gaps. Moves well behind the plate, 2.01-2.03 second pop time range. Strong hands. Will continue to get better as he fills out his frame.

Matthew DeVarona, RHP/3B, The First Academy, FL (2019)
-Tall, solid, athletic build with strength. Had a simple, repeatable delivery on the mound showing a fastball that sat 82-83 mph with life, touching 84 during his bullpen. Threw strikes. Squared up several balls during batting practice that jumped off the bat.
