Day two at the Sophomore Underclass Championship in Ft. Myers was filled with great performances, but none as big as two Floridian 2020’s. OF/RHP Connor Morgan (Hernando HS, FL) looked the part of a top hitter in the class as he rocketed balls in each of his at-bats. Physically built with a barreled-chest and proportional strength, the 6-foot-1, 213-pounder stands out in uniform. Smashing two balls up the middle, and later a majestically hit blast off the left field wall for a double, the sound that the bat makes when striking the ball was audible all over the complex. He has quick hands, but it is the lag that his barrel exhibits in the zone that really stands out about him and makes him such a promising hitter moving forward. Not to be outdone, 2020 OF/RHP Najer Victor (East Ridge HS, FL) was just a triple away from hitting for the cycle in FTB-Tucci Berryhill’s win. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound proportionally strong athlete has twitchy hands that allow him to drive the ball to all fields. He hammered balls each time up as he started with his hands held low, just above his waist before loading them back and up with a bigger leg kick. His bat works level through the zone as the barrel whips through the zone. Also a very talented pitcher, expect to hear more on Victor over the final two days of the tournament.

+ 2020 RHP Jackson Nezuh (TNXL Academy, FL) showed off impressive arm strength in his start under the lights. He featured a loose, whippy arm, and his fastball jumped out of his hand sitting 83-87 throughout the outing. His effortless velocity certainly promises even more in the future as he matures more. The 6-foot, 155-pounder also flashed a late-breaking slider at 74-76 that, when at its best, showed signs of possibly becoming a wipeout pitch.

+ I got a quick glimpse of 2020 INF Colby Wilkerson (Kerr-Vance Academy, NC) as he showed off his slick glove at second base, yesterday, for the Canes Black team, but he may have been even better at shortstop and at the plate on Day 2. The 5-foot-9, 155-pounder has twitchy actions in the field and at the plate. He quickly moves from side to side with advanced hands before delivering strong, accurate throws to first base. At the plate, Wilkerson utilized a large leg kick that hangs some, to crush a double to left centerfield.
