New England Insider: Top 2017 Uncommitted Catchers
With the Summer season coming to an end and the 2016-2017 high school sports season as well as fall ball getting underway, we would like to take a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects at each position.
Today we are starting with the top uncommitted senior catchers in the New England Region. We will look to create a few top uncommitted lists each week, as you can see by our 2017 Player Rankings there are numerous talented prospects available.
Nicholas Martin
Ranked: 46th in New England's 2017 Class
Scouting Report: Showed a tremendous amount of potential with the bat as he put on a good display in batting practice. Tee exit velocity of 91, as he has serious hand speed at the plate. At 5-foot-10, 180-pounds , he loves to play, as he got after in the defensive workout and the game. The receiving is soft and he secures the catch very well. Pop time of 1.90 in the workout and threw 73. The feet make his transfer work well and the arm path is simple. Ran a 4.27 down the line, runs very well for a catcher. The setup at the plate is even with his feet, bat path is flat, and a tick long to the ball. The hands are very strong as he has buggy whip to the bat, helping display serious power potential. Really good follow for me, as I think he is going to hit a bunch of bolts and handle good pitching as a defender.
College Outlook: High level offensive catcher for me. The bat has plus life in it, as he can take you out of the yard. Is an above average receiver with plenty of arm strength, someone is going to get a steal late in the game.
Receiving Interest: Is receiving interest from Divisions 2 schools in New England
