The 2014 Major League Draft takes place June 5-7. It will begin Thursday evening at 7 p.m. EST with the first day consisting of the first two rounds and competitive balance rounds. The third through 10th rounds will take place on Friday and Rounds 11-40 will happen Saturday. The final two days will start at 1 p.m. EST. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.
There were high expectations for Missouri’s class coming off the showcase circuit with several players showing upside. While it hasn’t panned as expected, the state was at the center of the scouting industry’s focus with Monte Harrison arguably being the best athlete in the draft class. Even if Missouri disappointed overall this spring, it still has a likely first-round pick and several high-upside players that could become early-round prospects in college.
1. Monte Harrison, OF, Lee’s Summit West HS, MO
Scouts have always been excited about Harrison’s athleticism and raw tools. He runs well and has a plus arm that would translate to average defense in center field and above average in right. He also has projectable raw power, but there were serious questions about his ability to hit.
