Parkland, FL—Players from Lake Worth HS, FL, had a good showing at the South Florida Underclass Showcase last weekend with a trio of young talent. 2017 C/OF Angel Cruz is a strong, tough kid with solid catch-and-throw skills. 2017 MIF Omar Sanchez is a slick fielder with good actions and he ran a 6.75-second 60. 2017 OF Nelson Velasquez was a very good-looking, athletic outfielder with a plus arm and plus speed. The following are scouting notes on the three.
Angel Cruz, C/OF (2017)
Cruz has a strong, stalky and mature body at 5-foot-7, 170 pounds. He showed smooth and athletic all over the field. He ran a 7.08, threw 82 mph across the diamond and 75 mph from behind the plate. In the infield he showed soft hands with good footwork. Behind the plate he has quick feet, a quick transfer a short, over the top arm action with plenty of arm strength. Offensively, he has a good base, uses his lower half well and has a nice swing plane. He showed gap power with ability to consistently square up the ball.
