Jupiter, FL—Friday brought a full slate of games in Jupiter, FL, for the second day of the World Wood Bat Championship. My day of chasing down draft prospects started with Team Elite Prime and the Houston Heat and ended with a peek at a couple 2016s that should be followed closely. Here are the highlights…
+ As I mentioned in my Thursday notebook, OF Jahmai Jones (Wesleyan HS, GA) is put together with a strong frame. I wanted a few a more at-bats from him and saw him go up against the Houston Heat. Jones went 0-for-2 with two walks. He grounded out and reached on an error, getting down the line in 4.3 and 4.25 seconds respectively. Jones’ teammate, 3B Bryce Denton (Ravenwood HS, TN) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. He has an upright stance and takes a short stride, exhibiting good bat speed with a short swing. He does well to keep his hands in and turned on a hard single past the shortstop in his first at-bat.
