TUESDAY’S COMEBACK OF THE DAY
No. 6 Joliet Catholic Academy (24-6-1, 13-3 East Suburban Catholic) rallied past St. Patrick 3-2 in eight innings, in the completion of its suspended game from May 16. Trailing St.Patrick 2-1, as the suspended game was picked up in the bottom of the eighth, with one out Nick Dalesandro singled and swiped second base. Super-soph KC Simonich walked. Dalesandro went to third on a wild pitch and scored the tying run on Connor Brandon’s groundout. Dan Devine followed with a walk-off single to right scoring Simonich with the Hilltopper game-winner.
No. 6 Joliet Catholic (25-6-1, 14-3 East Suburban Catholic) defeated St. Patrick 9-0 behind Mike Dow in game two to clinch a tie for the ESCC crown. Dow fired a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts.
WEDNESDAY’S SHOCKER OF THE DAY
Joliet West (17-11, 7-6 Southwest Suburban Blue), after falling to last-place Joliet Central 2-1 on Tuesday, stunned SWSC-Blue co-leader Homewood-Flossmoor 2-1 on Wednesday. With the score tied at 1, Diontae Tucker singled to leadoff the Tiger bottom of the seventh. With two out, Jeff Pesavento sent Tiger fans dancing onto Oneida Avenue, when he ripped a walk-off single plating Tucker with the Tiger game-winner. Pesavento’s magic made a winner of Tiger starting and winning pitcher Nick Marconi. Homewood Flossmoor falls to 21-8 and 10-3 in the SWSC Blue.
