Shocker of the Day
Granite City (8-17) stunned No. 5 Chatham Glenwood 4-3, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth and then shutting down the Titans in the bottom of the seventh. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Granite City’s Bruce Drennan brought the Warriors to within 3-2 with a triple to right. Ryan Steen followed with an RBI single to right to tie the game at 3-3. Later in the inning Steen would score the eventual game-winner on a passed ball. After the first two Chatham Glenwood (20-2) batters reached in the top of the seventh, Warrior starting and winning pitcher Sam Dean retired the next three Titan batters on a fly out and two punchouts.
NONCONFERENCE
No. 5 Chatham Glenwood (20-1) defeated Granite City (7-17) in game one 6-3. Mike Sekardi and Nick Maton led the Titan attack. Sekardi went 2-for-2 with two RBI while Maton singled and also plated two Titan runs.
NIC 10
No. 6 Rockford Boylan (19-0-1, 8-0 NIC 10) crushed Rockford Auburn behind Will Troia and Nick Nalewanski, 12-3. Troia had two hits including a triple and plated two Titan runs. Nalewanski had two singles and also had two RBI. Ryan Stanicek and Max Maney also plated a pair of Titan runs.
SOUTHWEST SUBURBAN BLUE
No. 20 Homewood-Flossmoor (15-4, 6-1) hit Lockport (13-6,6-1) with five runs in the bottom of the first and rolled to a 12-1 victory in six innings. James Sheehan (6-0) fired a two-hitter at the Porters. Bryce Gray went deep for the Vikings and plated three runs while Jesse Forestell went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Sheehan helped himself at the plate with a double and two RBI. The two clubs, now tied atop the SWSC Blue, will meet at historic Ed Flink Field in Lockport on Tuesday at 4:30. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Lockport for the SWSC-Blue showdown.
