St. Edward (1-1, 1-0) scored a gift run to win in walk-off fashion in eight thrilling innings, at Wing Park in Elgin. Gino Domel led off the bottom of the eighth by reaching on an I-C (1-4,0-1) error. Domel stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and then trotted home with the game-winner on a balk. St. Edward had but one lone hit by Jake LaFrenz, a double, in their MSC-East win. St.Edward starting pitcher Jack Tierney, fired the first seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits with 13 strikeouts. Pat Costello (1-0) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to pick up the win.
NONCONFERENCE
No. 3 Mount Carmel 8, Lane Tech 3
Mount Carmel (5-0) smashed the Indians behind UIC-bound Malik Carpenter. Carpenter, doubled, tripled and drove home two Caravan runs. Valpo-bound Scott Kapers also had two hits and plated a pair of Caravan runs. Centre College-bound Aaryn Chandler (1-0) allowed no earned runs and four hits, with five strikeouts in four innings to pick up the win.
No. 6 Plainfield North 10, Junction City, (ARK) 1
Plainfield North (2-1) crushed Junction City behind St.Louis-recruit junior Josh Garner (1-0). Garner allowed one run,one hit and struck out four in his solid four-innings of work on Monday. Garner helped himself at the plate with two hits including a double and two RBI. Matt Babuskov added three hits and plated a pair of Tiger runs while NIU-bound Jake Dunham chipped in with two hits, including a double and had two RBI.
