STATEWIDE GAME OF THE DAY
No.10 Jacobs (19-5) scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and went on to surprise No. 2 Mount Carmel 5-3 at Trout Park in Elgin. Mount Carmel (21-2) scored three times in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. Jacobs took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a ground out off the bat of Brenden Heiss. The Golden Eagles picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Daniel Tenayuca hammered a shot over the centerfield fence. Ryan Sargent chipped in with a pair of singles and an RBI. Daniel George picked up the win on the mound for Jacobs. Golden Eagle closer-deluxe Johnny Rohde, nailed down his seventh save of the season, striking out two Caravan batters in his scoreless seventh.
SHOCKERS OF THE DAY
Andrew (10-11, 3-4 Southwest Suburban Red) stunned No. 17 Lincoln-Way North (16-7-1, 5-1 Southwest Suburban Red) 6-4 in nine thrilling innings on Thursday. Andrew junior Ryan Hartman went the distance allowing one earned run and 10 hits in his complete-game gem. Hartman struck out seven and walked one. Colin Winston’s clutch RBI single in the top of the ninth plated the eventual game-winner for the T-Bolts. Ramon Padilla’s sac-fly added an insurance run in the ninth. Joe Oswald chipped in with a single and two RBI for Andrew.
Niles North (16-7, 3-4 Central Suburban North) stunned CSL-North leader Glenbrook North (16-5, 5-2 Central Suburban North) behind Gio Sanchez 7-2. Sanchez allowed one earned run and four hits in his complete-game masterpiece against the Spartans. Sanchez helped himself at the plate with a single and an RBI. Chris Jeffries singled and plated two Viking runs while Anthony Sanchez chipped in with a double and drove home a Viking run.
