Marian Catholic 1, No. 25 Carmel 0 (9 inings) (Game Two)
Marian Catholic (10-9; 2-2) won the extra inning thriller when junior Chris Austin singled to center scoring freshman Mark Diluia, who was plunked to lead off the top of the ninth. Junior RHP Bryce Hennessee (3-3) went the distance for the Spartans allowing just three hits and striking out six and not walking a batter.
Jacobs 2, Crystal Lake South 1
Jacobs (15-7; 9-1) slipped past the Gators in walk-off fashion at home in Algonquin. Crystal Lake South (8-7; 5-5) tied the contest up at 1 with a run in the top of the sixth. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Jake Jemmi singled to right. Ryan George followed with a single to right and when Ryan Sargent’s hot ground ball was misplayed at second, Jemmi streaked home with the Golden Eagle game-winner. Golden Eagle fans practiced self-control and did not storm onto Bunker Hill Drive.
McHenry 3, Dundee-Crown 2 (9 innings)
McHenry (14-3; 7-1) slipped past the Chargers in an extra-inning thriller in Carpentersville. The Warriors scored the winner in the top of the ninth on a Charger miscue and senior RHP Mike Alardo nailed down a shaky save, allowing two hits in the bottom of the ninth for Warrior starter senior RHP Cody Freund. Freund fired eight innings, allowing two unearned runs and six hits. Freund struck out nine and did not walk a batter. Red-hot junior Mike Borst doubled and had an RBI while Friday’s hero, sophomore Nick Lahrman, chipped in with a single and a RBI.
