STATEWIDE GAMES OF THE DAY
No. 4 Chatham Glenwood 6, Morton 2 Game One
Chatham Glenwood (17-0) trailed 2-1 as the game went to the bottom of the fifth, when the undefeated Titans exploded for five runs and went on to a 6-2 game one victory. Sam Anderson tied the game at 2-2, with an RBI single. Nick Maton, who went 3-for-3 in the game tripled over the Morton centerfielders head, scoring Anderson for a 3-2 Titan lead. Bryce Rooney’s sac-fly made it 4-2 and was followed by Jake Ryans’ monster blast that left the premises at South Park. Ben Trask concluded the scoring with an RBI single. Kyle Hall pitched into the seventh and needed relief help from Titan ace Maton. Maton blew away the final two Morton (18-3) batters to wrap up the Titans’ 17th consecutive victory.
Morton 15, No. 4 Chatham Glenwood 4
In game two, the Potters (19-3) made a statement, crushing previously undefeated Chatham Glenwood 15-4. Jared Little and Adam Christanson were two big reasons Glenwood tasted defeat for the first time in 2015. Little had three singles and plated five Potter runs, while Christianson singled and homered. Ryan Altenberger went 3-for-3 with two doubles and plated a pair of Potter runs. Altenberger was lights-out on the mound for Morton with 3.2 innings of one-hit baseball, with six punchouts to pick up the win. Chatham Glenwood falls to 17-1 and expect to see the Morton Potters in Monday’s PBR Super 25.
SHOCKERS OF THE DAY
Lyons Township (7-9) for the second day in a row, ambushed a Power 25 team , this time stunning No. 12 Lincoln-Way North 9-6 and Purdue-bound Kyle Ostrowski, on Friday. On Thursday the Lions surprised No. 25 Downers Grove South 5-4. Charlie Harrigan led the Lions all-out assault on Friday against two of IIlinois’ best pitchers. Harrigan went 4-for-4 falling a triple shy of hitting for the cycle and plating four Lion runs. Harrigan led the Lion assault, first on Lincoln-Way North’s Purdue-bound Kyle Ostrowski. Ostrowski was roughed up for six runs, five earned and six hits and was knocked out of the game with two out in the fourth. The Lion assault continued on Arizona State-bound Liam Jenkins, who gave up three runs, one earned and two hits in 2.1 innings of work.
DeSmet (MO) (12-8) stunned No.2 Edwardsville 5-1 at Tom Pile Field in Edwardsville on Friday night behind Mike Plassmeyer. Plassmeyer (6-0) held the Tigers to one run and five hits, in his outstanding six-innings of work. Plassmeyer struck out 10 for the Spartans. Kraige Gielow had a seven-pitch, seventh inning, to hand Edwardsville (19-1) its first loss of the season. Troy Beilsmith doubled and plated two runs, to lead the Spartan attack.
