No. 7 Mt. Carmel 5, De La Salle 2
Mount Carmel (13-2; 6-0) cruised past the Meteors behind the booming bat of University of Michigan recruit junior 2B Ako Thomas. Thomas had three singles, a double, scored three runs and drove in three more to lead the defending Class 4A champions past De La Salle. On Saturday at Haggerty Field the defending Class 4A state champion Caravan will open up CCL Blue play with the Crusaders of Brother Rice.
No. 5 Minooka 5, Plainfield South 3
Minooka (13-3; 7-1) kept pace with Plainfield North by slipping past the Cougars in Plainfield. Senior RHP Mitch Malone picked up the win and senior Trevor Maly fired two scoreless innings to nail down the save. Kenny Walsh doubled and plated an Indian run while senior C Tyler Desmarais chipped in with a single and an RBI.
Palatine 4, Fremd 0
Palatine (11-9; 2-3) blanked rival Fremd (9-6; 4-1) behind a one-hit shutout from senior Noah Gavin. Gavin (3-1) had 11 punchouts and two walks. Senior Andrew Bohlman had two singles and an RBI to lead the Pirate attack. Galvin helped himself with a single and an RBI.
St. Charles East 3, No.16 Batavia 1
St.Charles East (9-5; 5-3) stunned the Bulldogs for the second straight game by the identical 3-1 score in St.Charles. Senior RHP Mike Boehmer fired a four-hitter at Batavia (9-3-1; 5-2-1) and junior Jake Asquini’s bunt single plated two runs to give the Saints a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
