MOUNT CARMEL
No. 2 Mount Carmel (34-4) defeated No. 4 St. Rita 5-4. Nelson Munoz went the distance for the Caravan on the mound firing a six-hitter at the Mustangs with seven strikeouts to improve to 13-0. St. Rita bows out at 32-7. CLICK HERE to read full game story.
ROMEOVILLE
Plainfield North (30-7) avenged a 10-1 2014 Class 4A sectional championship game loss to Downers Grove South (30-6) behind Matt Vanek, 3-1. Vanek (7-3) fired a three-hitter at the Mustangs, pounding the strike zone and relying on his outstanding defense. Vanek had but one punchout. Bryan Van Duser and Josh Garner each drove home a Tiger run in the third, giving the Tigers their first lead of the game 2-1. Rich Bryza’s RBI double in the fourth provided an insurance run Vanek would not need.
CARY-GROVE
Jacobs (28-10) blasted No. 3 Rockford Boylan 8-2 behind Matt Kozlak and Ryan Sargent. Kozlak had three hits, including a double and drove home four Golden Eagle runs. Sargent fired six scoreless innings at Rockford Boylan (32-2-1), allowing four hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win. CLICK HERE to read game story.
STEVENSON
Stevenson (27-11-1) slipped past Mundelein 2-1 behind Jake Nusinow and Justin Stark. Nusinow allowed an unearned run and five hits against Mundelein (29-8) to pick up the win. Stark fired a hitless seventh inning to nail down the save for Nusinow. Jack Trotter doubled home a Patriot run and Pat Loeffler singled home the other Patriot tally.
