Digging In: 13 Revelations From The Super 60

Collectively, this year’s Super 60 Pro Showcase was arguably the best assemblage of talent in the event’s 13-year history. Already, National Supervisor Nathan Rode wrote about his personal highlights, in addition to players who improved their draft stock in The Hotlist.

Today, I look at my personal revelations from several individual performances on Sunday. By no means is this my list of the best players at the event, though many of the below names would certainly be in there. No, this list is consists of players who surprised, improved, emerged to the fore, flew under the radar, etc. Certainly I could’ve easily extended this list well past 13 names, but after 2,000-plus words, I had to stop screw-driving myself into the ground …

1.  Luke Shilling, RHP, Notre Dame Prep, MI
Word started to come across the wire that this 6-foot-5, 250-pound first baseman/catcher had made the move to the mound and he was throwing the baseball very, very hard. When it was finally verified by some credible sources, we added Shilling at the last minute. Glad we did. Shilling was the biggest winner at the Super 60, not only because he effortlessly pitched at 93-95 mph, setting the 13-year event record, but because few had even known about him. In this day and age, a hulking 93-95 right-hander (in early February, mind you) isn’t kept quiet for long. After his pen, the Illinois recruit had become one of the higher interest draft prospects in the Midwest. I’m betting there will be more than a handful of guys at his first start this spring ...
