The spring season is important for any high school prospect, but it has been especially so for RHP Cameron Varga (Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, OH). The North Carolina recruit was sidelined from mid-July through the fall with biceps tendinitis after returning from surgery to remove a cyst. He was supposed to be back on the mound in time for the World Wood Bat Championship in October, but when the all clear was given, he and his family decided it was too close to the tournament to be ready in time. So he went into his normal offseason routine to get ready for the spring.
“I feel like it was an easy decision,” Varga said. “I knew long term, it would be the best decision. I wanted to make sure I came out here healthy for my senior season. I didn't want to leave any question marks or anything like that. Come out and make sure I'm 100 percent. If that meant less scouts or whatever, then so be it. So far it's been working out.”
