Small adjustments can mean big differences for prospects. A mechanical tweak for a hitter can unlock his power potential. A different grip can help a pitcher with his breaking ball. RHP Evan Sperling (Grafton HS, VA) made an adjustment that seemingly led to a breakout summer.
“The summer was good,” Sperling said. “It was long, but I think I exploded.”
That explosion could be attributed to the Virginia recruit’s arm slot. Pitching from a low-3/4 slot, Sperling was encouraged by his coaches to try to raise it. He tried it and didn’t like it.
