LONG BEACH, CA—The Area Code Games schedule had a full slate with four games played. The White Sox (Midwest) and Yankees (Northeast) kicked things off at 8 a.m., making for a game packed with prospects from Prep Baseball Report’s coverage area. RHP Grant Sloan (Zionsville HS, IN) got the start on the mound and pitched two innings, allowing three hits while striking one and inducing two double plays.
Sloan pitched at 87-88 mph with some arm-side sink. He threw mostly fastballs, but mixed in a high 70s changeup and slurvy breaking ball in the high 70s as well. He has a tall, long frame at 6-foot-5, 205 pounds and turns his back on the hitter in his windup. 3B Willie Burger (Lancaster Catholic HS, PA) made hard contact against Sloan on a base hit, but was erased on a double play. 3B Travis Blankenhorn (Pottsville HS, PA) also made loud contact, smoking a double to left-center field that one-hopped the wall.
