It’s still extremely early, and the list will inevitably evolve, expand and dramatically change over the coming years, but we have released our initial overall Class of 2018 player rankings. There are so many uncertainties evaluating freshmen in high school, however, we are confident this modest Top 50 list of prospects will have bright futures as they grow and mature.
While it is early, freshmen are already making verbal commitments. In fact, 11 of the top 50 prospects have pledged to top-level programs across the country, with several others sitting on offers.
Early indications point to this 2018 class being another bumper crop of prospects across our 22-state coverage area. And many of the top prospects are coming from some non-traditional baseball sources. Case in point: The undisputed No. 1 prospect in our coverage area – RHP Levi Kelly (Nitro HS, WV) – hails from West Virginia. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Kelly has been up to 91 mph, with it seems plenty more in the tank, and shows advanced feel for secondary stuff.
Aside from a West Virginian holding the top spot, the state of Wisconsin appears to be loaded with top-level prospects. Already three Wisconsin prospects are verbally committed to top-level programs. Wisconsin also has two players ranked in the top 10 – OF Jarred Kelenic (Waukesha West HS, WI) and RHP Dillon Nowicki (Sloughton HS, WI). Kelenic is verbally committed to Louisville while Nowicki is uncommitted. In all, Wisconsin has five players in the Top 50.
Pennsylvania is another state that appears to be especially strong in the 2018 class. LHP/OF Dillon Marsh (Lancaster Catholic HS, PA) headlines six Pennsylvania prospects in the Top 50, four of which are among the top 25.
Of course Florida prospects factor heavily in the initial list. LHP Doug Nikhazy (West Orange HS, FL; Mississippi commit), SS Alec Sanchez (Providence HS, FL; Florida State), C/RHP Mason Denaburg (Merritt Island HS, FL) and left-handed hitting 1B Chase Sanguinetti (Tampa Prep HS, FL; Florida State) are all ranked in the top 10.
Enough reading about it. See for yourself. A look at the top 10:
