2014 Unsigned Senior Sneak Peak: Top Performers

The 2014 Unsigned Senior Showcase at Wright State University showcased the sort of talent that the Buckeye State still has to offer and there is plenty to offer. With 16 pitchers touching at least 85 mph, 32 pitchers sitting 80 mph and above as well as 50 pitchers touching 80 mph, the Buckeye State has some quality arms to offer programs. Hitting wise there were five guys whose exit velocity was 90 or above and 26 players with an exit velocity of 85 or above as well as 13 players with an exit velocity of 84 mph.

In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

2014 Unsigned Senior Sneak Peak: Top Performers

By Dan Machovina
PBR Ohio Assistant Scouting Director

Douglas Smith, RHP/SS, Central Crossing, 2015

6-foot-1, 190-pound athletic build. He uses a clean ¾ arm action with quicker armspeed and requires regular effort. Ball comes fairly easy out of his hand. Fastball was between 83-88 mph. Curveball is a little inconsistent as he tends to slow his arm down at times, better when he throws it harder as it shows signs of being sharp at 67-71 mph with downward depth. His changeup is thrown at fastball armspeed with sink at 74-77 mph.

Nick Ernst, RHP, LaSalle HS, 2015

The 6-3, 190 pound athletic right-hander was really impressive, with his ability to throw three pitches for strikes. His fastball from a high ¾ slot sat 87-88 with good downhill plane while also dropping a 73-75 mph curveball with a 11/5 break that pounded the zone. Nick would also use his 80-81 mph change up effectively with good arm speed. He really pounded the zone striking out six without walking a batter.
