The fall schedule of PBR events in Pennsylvania began this past weekend with the 2016 Western PA Fall Review at La Roche College. Over 30 prospects from two states gathered to showcase their abilities during the course of two nine-inning games and a showcase. Today we conclude our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at the prospects that participated from the Class of 2017.
- FINAL MEASURABLES for all prospects in attendance
Class of 2017
Zack Blystone, SS/RHP, Derry Area HS
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Displayed a line drive approach with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.00 60-yard dash. Showcased confidence in his glove hand and the ability to play the baseball on the move with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond. Sat 73-74 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a compact, balanced delivery on the mound. Also displayed a 68 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation during three innings of work.
Doogie Cannon, RHP, Mars Area HS
6-foot-2, 145-pound right-hander sat 72-73 from an over-the-top arm slot during three innings of work. The lanky senior also commanded a 64 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation. Cannon showed good tempo and balance throughout his delivery. Plenty of room for additional strength on his frame and velocity gains moving forward.
Mike Crawford, LHP, West Allegheny HS
6-foot-1, 170-pound lefty allowed one run on two hits while striking out seven in three innings of game action. Sat 81-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot with fluid, easy delivery (down a few ticks from his 82-84 from earlier in the summer). Fastball shows some arm run and his 74 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed. Curveball show two-plane 1/7 break at 72 mph and has a chance to be an above average pitch at the next level.
Nate Emerson, OF, Franklin Area HS
6-foot, 150-pound outfielder is one of the more polished center fielders statewide in his class. Long strider gets excellent jumps and takes good routes to the baseball. The long strider ran a 6.81 60-yard dash on this date and has shown 89 mph arm strength. The right-handed hitter has a short, line-drive swing and shows a solid feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Emerson's foot speed and defensive abilities will immediately play at the next level. His offensive game we continue to develop as his long, athletic frame continues to mature and fill out.
Brian Farabaugh, OF, North Hills HS
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitter went 4-for-5 with a double, triple and a sacrifice fly over two games. Posted impressive across the board measurables on the day (6.78 60-yard dash, 93 mph bat exit velocity, 80 mph arm strength). Likely a corner outfielder at the next level, Farabaugh has made solid strides defensively. His right-handed swing begins from a square stance and he initiates his lower half with a toe-tap stride.
Zane Gallagher, OF/LHP, Morgantown HS (WV)
6-foot-1, 195-pound left-handed hitter has shown the ability to consistently put good swings and at bats together at several PBR events over the course of the summer and fall. Gallagher has run a 6.95 60-yard dash and has shown the ability to handle corner outfield chores at the next level. The lefty also worked three scoreless innings on the mound sitting 75-77 from a high 3/4 arm slot.
Matt Privette, OF, Pittsburgh Central Catholic HS
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in game one action. Privette made a pair of sliding catches in the outfield and showed solid instincts and routes to the baseball with improved 80 mph arm strength. Far from a finished product, the uncommitted senior continues to show strides in his game and ran a 6.72 60-yard dash.
