West Perry took its unblemished 11-0 record on the road to Boiling Springs on Monday and left with its perfect season in tact, but not without an early scare. The Mustangs, the No. 4 ranked team in the newly released PBR Class AAA state rankings, fell behind in the 1st inning 1-0 when Boiling Springs OF Colin Frownfelter led off with a single and later scored an unearned run on a West Perry error.
The Bubblers lead was short-lived as West Perry answered with four runs in the 2nd and a single run in the 3rd to regain the lead at 5-1. The Mustangs cruised from that point behind the 5-hit, complete game pitching effort of sophomore RHP Ben Dum. Two of the Bubblers hits, both doubles, led to a run in the 7th inning and the 5-2 final score. Dum finished the night giving up five hits and two runs, one of which was earned. The 6-foot, 175-pound righty struck out six and threw 97 pitches (67 for strikes) in the complete-game victory.
Catcher Brendan Hower, a Juniata College recruit, led the Mustangs offense going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Frownfelter was the hitting star for the Bubblers going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
